Moldova's Independence Declaration to be kept in NBM Depository

After restoration, the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova will be kept in the Depository of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), under a decision adopted on December 3 by the Parliament's Standing Bureau, at possibly its last meeting before dissolution, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Parliament had to choose between the NBM's Depository or the Parliament's Archives. The original of the 1991 Declaration disappeared in a fire caused by post-election disturbances in April 2009 when the Parliament's building was ransacked. The Declaration was restored through a special decision of the parliament and the original signatories, the members of Moldova's first democratically elected Parliament, repeated the procedure at a festive meeting on April 26, 2010. The restored Declaration has 271 signatures out of the initial 278. Only several Communist MPs and two lawmakers from the Transnistrian region refused to sign the Declaration for a second time. The signatures of the deceased MPs were scanned. Also today, the Standing Bureau decided to impose a cap on the cost of MP insignias at 200 lei ($16). Those worn by the member of the previous parliament had a cost of 800 lei ($65).
