Moldova’s Government to pay ASITO 24,000 euros
The European Court of Human Rights observed on Tuesday, April 24 that an agreement had been reached between the Insurance Company ASITO and the Government of the Republic of Moldova, according to which the government is fined to paying EUR 24,000 to the company. Having examined the terms of the agreement reached, the Court considered that it was no longer justified to continue the examination of the application. Accordingly, the case has been struck out.
In a judgment of 8 November 2005, the Court held that there had been a violation of the right to a fair hearing and protection of property, on account of the quashing of two judgments in the applicant company’s favour. It considered that the question of just satisfaction was not ready for decision.
To date, the Moldovan government has been fined in more than 55 cases, being obliged to pay damages of more than EUR 700,000.
