Moldova’s Foreign Trade is out of control – experts
Current developments of Moldova’s foreign trade shows the fact that it gets out of control, according to the last edition of „Economic Monitor”, released on Thursday, 18 May, by IDIS “Viitorul.
According to experts, in the first two months of this year there were noted the same concerning tendencies as in 2005. Thus, the commercial balance had in January-February a deficit of 170,9 million dollars representing an increase 1.7-fold compared to the same period of 2005. The level of covering imports with exports represented 48.1% compared to 60.9% in January-February 2005.
Nevertheless, according to IDIS economists, these data do not mirror the real situation of the foreign trade, because they characterize in general only the start of a difficult period for Moldovan exporters directed towards CIS markets. In the months to follow, the misbalance between the imports and exports will become, in experts’ opinion, threatening.
The exports in the first two months of the yeas amounted to 158,1 million dollars and surpassed lightly the level registered in the same period of 2005. In the same period, the imports represented 329 million dollars, increasing by29.7% compared to January-February 2005.
