The gross external debt of the Republic of Moldova on December 31, 2019 was US$7.416,08 billion, up 1.3% compared with the end of 2018. This is 62% of the Gross Domestic Product, IPN reports, quoting the National Bank of Moldova.
The nonfinancial organization accounted for 40.4% of the gross external debt (+0.3 percentage points compared with 2018), the intragroup lending within direct investment for 25.7% (+0.5 percentage points), the public administration for 23.2% (-0.1 percentage points) etc.
The public and publicly guaranteed external debt represented 25.9% of the external debt, totaling US$1.919,15 billion. The non-guaranteed pubic debt came to US$5.496,93 billion.
The long-term debt represented 71.1% of the gross external debt, which was US$5.269,57 billion on December 31, 2019, while the short-term debt added up to US$2,146,51 billion.
In 2019, the commitments in euro prevailed in the structure by currencies of the public and publicly guaranteed and non-guaranteed debt.
