The Government’s responsibility is to fulfill the promises it made when it asked for the people’s support – to modernize the state, to fight corruption, to create economic opportunities and to improve the living standards. Only this way the Republic of Moldova can come closer to achieving the aspiration to become a fully-fledged member of the European Union, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița stated in a roundtable meeting staged in Berlin by the Konrad-Adenauer-Shifting (KAS), IPN reports.
Natalia Gavrilița highly appreciated the KAS’ contribution to strengthening democracy, developing the institutions and civil society in the Republic of Moldova, noting that despite the regional instability, the Republic of Moldova remains firmly committed to the European integration process.
The official said that given the war in Ukraine, Moldovan authorities’ efforts are aimed at managing the refugee crisis. “This is an unprecedented challenge for the Republic of Moldova. However, despite our limited resources, owing to the mobilization of society, state institutions, businesspeople, NGOs and the foreign partners, we managed to create decent conditions for the refugees. We further need rapid response and flexible assistance mechanisms, including in the form of additional budget support and grants for maintaining political, economic and social stability,” stated Premier Gavrilița, being quoted in a press release of the Government.
She also spoke about the consequences of the military conflict on a number of important sectors, underlining the energy crisis. The official noted that the Republic of Moldova has to urgently review its current energy policy and needs significant investment to diversify its supply sources. “A resistant Moldova is a contribution not only to a resistant Europe, but also to the resistance of Ukraine, which needs our support and solidarity the most,” stated Natalia Gavrilița.
