Moldova’s energy security discussed in Bucharest
Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Romanian officials in Bucharest considered the possibility of hastening the construction of the Drochia-Ungheni gas pipeline and the electrical interconnections between Moldova and Romania, Balti-Suceava and Falciu-Gotesti. In a news conference in Chisinau on November 16, Filat said the projects will be supported financially by the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Info-Prim Neo reports.
”We are yet to adopt a number of decisions so as to be able to join the Energy Community Treaty by December,” Filat said.
The Premier said the Romanian authorities and other partners from the Central European Initiative (CEI) assured him of their support. Vlad Filat had participated in the CEI Summit in Bucharest during November 13-14.
The opening of the bridge between Radauti and Lipcani was another subject discussed with the Romanian authorities. The bridge will allow the Moldovan people living in northern Moldova to have direct access to Romania. The Premier said the bridge could be opened when the Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic comes into force.
“We also discussed the opening and reopening of other bridges over the Prut, some of which had been destroyed during the Second World War,” Filat said, adding that European funds will be accessed for the purpose.
