The Greek company Aegean Airlines will operate direct flights from the Chisinau International Airport to Athens as from November 3. Moldova’s Ambassador to Greece Andrei Popov has told IPN that the flight will last for less than two hours and the ticket will cost €100.
Aegean Airlines will operate two flights a week, on Tuesday and on Friday, by an Airbus 320. According to the timetable, the plane will take off from the Chisinau International Airport each Friday at 11:50am and will land in Athens at 13:45pm. Takeoff from Athens was set for 9:10am, while landing in Chisinau for 11:05am.
Each Tuesday, the plane will take off from the Chisinau International Airport at 6:35pm and will land in Athens at 8:30pm. Departure from Athens was scheduled for 3:55pm, while arrival in Chisinau for 5:50pm.
The request to launch direct Athens – Chisinau flights was made by President Maia Sandu in a meeting with the Greek Prime Minister Kyriákos Mitsotákis in Athens on August 22. The discussion gave a decisive political impulse to the decision to launch direct flights, said Moldova’s Embassy in Greece.
“We will be able to easier travel for tourism or business purposes, while the Moldovans who settled in the Hellenic Republic could travel home more often to see their families,” said President Sandu.
The official noted that the relations between Moldova and Greece are very good and announced that an embassy of Greece will be opened in Chisinau in the near future. The states will also sign an agreement on the mutual recognition of driving licenses.
