Moldova’s diplomatic missions could have their own headquarters in EU countries

Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin wants Moldovan diplomatic missions to the EU to have their own headquarters starting 2008. This initiative was launched by the head of state after the Government meeting held Wednesday, December 26. “We must have diplomatic missions in all EU countries. And not only an ambassador but also our headquarters”, the president said. According to him, the Government should work out a special plan to purchase or build headquarters for the Moldovan diplomatic missions in the capitals of the EU countries. Although he admitted that this project involves a considerable amount of expenses from the part of our country, the head of state said these actions must be regarded as an investment. Moreover, the president said, the image of the country will improve if Moldova will have its own headquarters. Thus, Moldova will prove that “it came in the given country not for some time but with the intention to develop its activity for a long period of time”, Voronin said. According to the president, the Republic of Moldova is respected and appreciated by the majority of states and there is no country in the EU that would not back Moldova. “The last few years have proved Moldova has a lot of friends and we must do everything to improve the level and quality of these relations. For this we need to prove that we are reliable partners”, Voronin concluded.
