Moldova’s delegation to JCC suggests monitoring Security Zone

The Joint Control Commission (JCC) could start monitoring the Security Zone following disagreements between the delegations representing Chisinau and Moldova over the free movement of people. The discussions were held within an ordinary meeting of the JCC on October 30, IPN reports.

Moldova’s delegation repeatedly proposed including the free movement of people through the Security Zone and the bans imposed by the Transnistrian bodies on representatives of the OSCE Mission in the agenda of the meeting. The representatives of Chisinau underlined that such actions were lately taken also against representatives of Ukraine and members of the Moldovan delegation and peacekeepers.

In order to overcome this problem, it was proposed instituting monitoring in the Security Zone and such an idea was supported by all the delegations to the JCC. A final decision wasn’t yet taken as the participants could not agree on the facilities that are to be checked and on the institution that would perform the monitoring. As no consensus could be reached, the Commission’s co-chairman on the part of Russia suggested suspending the meeting and resuming the discussions in the next meeting set for November 6. The heads of delegations will meet for additional consultations on November 5, at the head office of the OSCE Mission in Chisinau.
