Moldova’s delegation insists on monitoring of Security Zone by international experts

The delegation of the Republic of Moldova to the Joint Control Commission (JCC) insists on the monitoring of the Security Zone by independent international experts under the aegis of the OSCE Mission to Moldova. The delegation invokes the long period of time during which the Commission was unable to react appropriately to the serious problems within its area of responsibility, IPN reports, quoting the Reintegration Policies Bureau.

The delegation refers implicitly to the case of July 15, when two employees of the Dubăsari Police Inspectorate were detained illegally for about 12 hours. According to the delegation, such incidents occur systematically in the Security Zone, while the Transnistrian side categorically rejects the proposals to include the problem in the official agenda of the discussions.

Moldova’s delegation proposed that the sides should make approaches to the OSCE Mission to Moldova. The delegations of the Russian Federation and of Tiraspol said such a situation will make the OSCE Mission replace the role of the peacekeepers in the operation on the Nistru. Both of the delegations asked for time for additional consultations and the meeting was therefore interrupted. The issue will be examined again in September.
