Moldova's Consulate will ask Iasi school to take name of poet Grigore Vieru

Moldova's General Consulate in Iasi will ask the local authorities to name a school after the late Moldovan poet Grigore Vieru, IPN learned from a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On Grigore Vieru's birthday on February 14, like many towns in Moldova, Iasi also hosted commemorative events, which included a wreath-laying ceremony at the poet's bust in Copou Park. The event featured Honor Guard troops and the 15th Military Brigade's brass band. The program included a music and poetry performance offered by a folk group from Neamt. Academician Mihai Cimpoi, a prominent member of the Moldovan Writers' Union, participated in the event.

On this day, to commemorate Grigore Vieru's 79th birthday, many schools in Iasi held a thematic class dedicated to his work.
