Moldova’s ambassador to Estonia: We need 3.5 million European integrations…

The Ambassador of Moldova to Estonia Victor Guzun is convinced that Moldova must learn from the successful European integration experience of such small countries as Estonia, IPN reports.

In the program “Without myths”, the diplomat said, being quoted by the newspaper “Panoram”, that when the Soviet Union fell apart, the living standards in Estonia and Moldova was almost the same.

“Recently, the Ministry of Finance published a new report, which says that the average monthly salary in Estonia exceeded €1,050,” stated Victor Guzun, adding that it is by almost €1,000 higher than the average pay in Moldova.

He noted that most of the Estonians supported the integration into the European Union. “The people here consider that 1 million small European integrations are more efficient and faster than a big European integration. Owing to this principle, Estonia during 15 years covered a road that other countries cover in half a century. The same is true about Moldova: we do not need a great integration; we need 3.5 million small European integrations,” stated Victor Guzun.

The ambassador announced that a Moldovan-Estonian business forum will be staged in Chisinau in the second half of October. It will involve Estonian producers and managers.

“Real possibilities of signing mutually advantageous contracts will appear in this event,” said the diplomat, specifying that a series of Moldovan wines and cognacs can be today found on shelves in Estonian shops and there appear Moldovan fruit, chocolate and even electronic appliances.

According to the data of the Embassy of Moldova in Estonia, trade between the two countries now totals about €9 million. Starting with 2010, it rose by 30-40% a year.
