Moldova's 1918 parliamentarians to be commemorated
A group of priests from the Basarabian Church will commemorate the parliamentarians of Sfatul Tarii (Council of Country), who contributed to the union with Romanian, on Sunday. The religious ceremony will unfold at the Central Cemetery on Armeneasca street in Chisinau, starting at 15.00, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Church's adviser, Iulian Budescu.
The service will be staged near Anton Crihan's tomb, and then the graves of other Sfatul Tarii membes will be incensed and sprinkled with wine, specified the president of the Orthodox Christian Students Association from Romania, Iulian Rusanovschi.
Sfatul Tarii was the parliament of the Russian region Basarabia and, after the proclamation of the Democratic Moldavian Republic, it was the legislature of the new republic, which proclaimed its union with Romania in 1918.
It had 156 MPs. On March 27, 1918, of 135 parliamentarians present, 86 voted for the unions, three – against, and 36 abstained. 13 deputies were not attending.
7 deputies of Sfatul Tarii are buried in the Central Cemetery: Anton Crihan, Nicolae Alexandri, Vasile Tantu, Sergiu Nita, Nicolae Moghileanschi, Vasile Lascov, Iacob Suceveanu.
