The Moldovan citizens who work legally in Italy will benefit from social welfare. A social security agreement was signed by President Maia Sandu and the Minister of Labor and Social Policies of Italy Andrea Orlando in Rome, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.
“It is a document awaited by our nationals who worked or work in Italy. It offers the possibility of receiving a pension at home after obtaining a pension in this country and vice versa – of receiving in Italy the pension from the Republic of Moldova,” stated Maia Sandu.
According to this agreement, each state will calculate and pay the pension proportionally to the insurance period accumulated on the own territory and based only on legally paid contributions. Furthermore, on the basis of this treaty, there will be provided the pension for disability caused by a common illness and the pension and allowance for disability caused by an accident at work or an occupational disease. This way, the Moldovans will be able to choose on the territory of whose state to receive the pensions and benefits to which they are entitled.
“I thanked Minister Orlando and the teams of both of the states for the work done to finalize this agreement. We also agreed to continue to strengthen the bilateral cooperation relations in the fields of social protection and labor, which are so important for our community in Italy,” noted President Sandu.
Maia Sandu has paid an official visit to Rome during June 18-20 at the invitation of her Italian counterpart.
The National House of Social Insurance of Moldova currently applies 14 social security agreements signed with Bulgaria, Portugal, Romania, Luxemburg, Austria, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, and Belarus.
