Moldovans with Romanian nationality could vote at 37 polling stations in Moldova

The Moldovans who hold Romanian nationality will be able to vote in the December 11 parliamentary elections of Romania at 35 polling places that will be established in Moldova. This is by 12 more than in the last, presidential elections of 2014. Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ionita told a news conference that more than 87,000 ballots were prepared for the voters from Moldova. The largest number of polling stations will be opened in Chisinau, 12, IPN reports.

The diplomat said the December elections bring a number of novelties such as postal voting for the citizens who are abroad and who submitted a relevant application one month earlier. As many as 2,446 applications have been filed overall, one third of which on Moldova’s territory.

Also, new polling places will be established based on voters’ requests. Thus, as a result of over 100 applications submitted to the consular officers of Moldova, four new polling places will be set up, in Carabetovca villages of Basarabeasca district, Bardar village of Ialoveni district and in Causeni and Soroca towns.

To combat multiple voting, for the first time in the upcoming elections, the Romanian identification papers will be scanned when entering polling places abroad. At global level, there will be established 417 polling places, by 111 more than in the parliamentary elections of 2012 and by 123 more than in the presidential elections of 2014.

On Moldova’s territory, the number of ballots differs from one polling place to another, from 500 to 2,500. The largest number of ballots will be allocated to the polling places in Chisinau, while the lowest number to the polling station in Carabetovca. Daniel Ionita said that this time the documents showing that the holder has Romanian nationality must be accompanied by documents showing the person lives abroad. In the case of the citizens of Moldova, these must come to the polling place with the Romanian identity card accompanied by documents showing that the domicile is in Moldova.

The Romanian tourists who will be in Moldova and the Moldovans who will be in Romania will be unable to vote on December 11. For the most frequently asked questions about the December 11 elections, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania published an informative note that is available at the websites of the embassy and the ministry.

The ambassador called on the citizens to vote, but to make sure first that they have valid papers or to make approaches to renew them before Election Day.

In Chisinau, polling places will be opened at the Embassy of Romania, the Romanian Cultural Center “Mihai Eminescu”, the head office of Moldova’s Railways, the Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi” (two), the Consulate (three), the State University of Moldova (two) and the Lyceum “Spiru Haret” (two).
