Moldovans will not invade Europe after visa regime is liberalized, report
If Moldova obtains a liberalized visa regime with the European Union, the Moldovan migrants will not invade the member states. The benefits for the country will be intensifying contacts between individuals and businesses and recovering the damaged social links between those who work abroad and those left behind, said authors of the 2012 National Human Development Report, entitled “European Aspirations and Human Development of the Republic of Moldova”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At the same time, the report says that the assumption that visa regime liberalization will stimulate labor migration is highly exaggerated. The main effects of the liberalized visa regime are related to the promotion of crossborder exchange and strengthening of cooperation between different entities, including of the business relations between Moldovan companies and their EU partners.
According to the authors, a series of administrative and economic factors limit the additional growth of migration following the elimination of visas. As a net effect, the annulment of the visa regime will have positive economic and social effects on Moldova and a minimum impact on the European Union.
The authors also reflect on the main expectations of the Moldovan people from the European integration process. One of the key messages of this chapter of the report is that if the government does not adopt a more effective communication strategy on European integration, the social support which lays the basis of this process will gradually erode".
