Moldovans will know more about Millennium Development Goals

The Moldovan people will be able to know more about the Millennium Development Goals within a project launched by the European Union. The project involves representatives of civil society and the private sector, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference, Valeriu Prohnitski, executive director of the Independent Analytical Center “Expert-Grup”, said national experts will carry out eight sector studies centering on civil society and the private sector. Besides the analytical goals, the study will promote the positive practices of the companies involved in implementing the development objectives. There will be created eight sector cluster-councils that will provide consultancy in conducting relevant studies. “We will launch a national awareness-raising campaign that will include eight audio and video recordings, eight placards, 8 000 informative brochures and 5 000 auto-collants in key development sectors that will be used to familiarize the decision makers, business people and ordinary people with the Millennium Development Goals. We will also employ different communication ways, including social networking sites,” said Valeriu Prohnitski. There will be also organized eight training courses of three days each for at least 100 representatives of the private sector. They will focus on general and specific techniques for monitoring the development areas. A textbook on efficient monitoring methods used in the development areas will be produced within the project. There will be printed 2 000 copies of the textbook. A conference will be held in the end to discuss the results of the project and the situation concerning the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals. Darina Kadunkova, director of the Center for Economic Development of Bulgaria, which is implementing the project, said there are two very important initiatives. The first is the awareness-raising campaign that will be conducted by civil society, while the second concerns the development of the capacities of the two players – civil society and the private sector – for implementing the Millennium Development Goals. The €145,000 project “Civil society and the private sector – contributions to implementing the Millennium Development Goals” is financed by the European Commission. It will be implemented by the Center for Economic Development of Bulgaria in partnership with the Public Policy Institute and the Independent Analytical Center “Expert-Grup” of Moldova, in Chisinau municipality, the northern, central and southern regions, and in the Transnistrian region.
