Moldovans will have a 10-day vacation during winter holidays

The Government added 4 days free from work to the regular holidays so that employees can enjoy a 10-day vacation during the winter holidays. At its Wednesday’s meeting, the Government adopted a decision establishing 31 December 2007, and 2, 3 and 4 January 2008 as days free from work. Instead, employees will have to work on 29 December this year, and January 26, February 16, and March 15 next year. PM Vasile Tarlev said that next year the Government will change the Labour Code so as to declare by law the days around New Year’s Day as holidays. Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade Sergiu Sainciuc stated that the vacation is compulsory for all the government and private institutions, except for the ones that cannot cease working during holidays, such as hospitals, companies involved in production, public utilities, police, and other. Sainciuc added that private companies may establish extra work days in addition to the ones fixed by the Government.
