Canada will start sanctioning people and companies based Moldova that are helping Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, the press service of the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced after a meeting of the official and President Maia Sandu, IPN reports, with reference to RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service.
The Canadian authorities will publish new regulations in order to target people in Moldova who are committing systematic human rights violations, endangering international security or committing corruption, noted the quoted source.
On May 11, Maia Sandu paid a visit to Canada, with this being the first visit made by a Moldovan President the past 30 years. In a meeting with the Governor General of Canada Mary Simon, President Sandu asked to sanction the fugitive oligarchs and to help fight corruption.
