Moldovans traveled more in 2006 than in 2005
The citizens of Moldova have traveled more this year than in 2005. According to the National Bureau of Statistics of RM, in the first 5 months of 2006, compared to the same period of 2005, the number of passengers traveling by air has increased by 22.3%; by 11.3% - the number of passengers traveling by train; 6.6% - the number of passengers traveling by bus and maxi-taxi.
Thus, 134,900 passengers benefited of air travel, 20,400 – of water transport, 45,5 million passengers – buses and maxi-taxis, 70.8% of them were transported by private businessmen. In January-April, 1.651.500 passengers traveled by train, data for May were not made public yet.
At the same time, in January-May 2006, train, auto, fluvial and air transport enterprises have transported 4725,600 tones of goods, a smaller amount, by 18%, than the one registered in 2005. Concomitantly, the goods totaled 1.793,3 million tones-km, or by 3.8% more. 3.965,2 tones of goods, or 81.6% of the volume of last year were transported by train, via motor transport – 729,3, or 83.2% of the volume of 2005.
