Moldovans thwarted in their attempt to illegally cross border with Romania

A 29-year-old man was detained by officers of the Home Ministry's Center for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings for organizing the illegal migration of five Moldovans, who were to illegally cross the Moldovan-Romanian border through the Leuseni-Albita point and go then to different EU states, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communique, the Home Ministry says that the officers of the Center for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and border guards of the Leuseni-Albita crossing point stopped a Wolkswagen car with the five migrants. They could not tell the police where they were going to as they had no reservations and invitations. After attempting to mislead the police, the men confessed that they wanted to migrate to Europe. They were to pay between 3,000 and 4,000 euros to the man who organized their trip in concert with other persons. Legal action was taken under article 362/1 - Organization of Illegal Migration - of the Penal Code. The culprit is liable to fine of 6,000 to 20,000 lei or to 1 to 7 years' imprisonment and will be deprived of the right to hold a certain post or carry out a certain activity for a period of 1 to 5 years.
