Two Moldovan citizens stole 3 million euros from owners of Visa and MasterCard all over the world. They face jail terms of up to eight years.
In a news conference on December 24, Sergiu Carapunarly, a representatives of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime, said the criminal group forged bank cards and put them into circulation in Moldova and abroad.
Six persons were heard in the given case, but the evidence proves the guilt of only two of them – a 21-year-old man who studies at a university in France and a 22-year-old man who studies at the Law Faculty of the State Agrarian University of Moldova. Both of them were arrested.
The culprits had accomplices abroad and, using modern information technology, obtained personalized data from the deposit accounts and bank cards through different ways and forged bank cards.
In Moldova alone, this group withdrew about half a million lei, damaging the image of the banks that issue such cards.
