In 2010 the number of cell phone users in Moldova amounted to 3.16 million, taking the penetration rate to 88.8%, according to information presented in a press release by the communications regulator ANRCETI, Info-Prim Neo reports. The largest number of new users connected to the network – 188,200 – was reported by Moldcell. The total number of Moldcell users is 1,340,000. Orange Moldova continues to be the leader in this respect, with roughly 2 million users. The total amount of sales registered in 2010 by the cell phone operators rose by 13.86% from 2009 to more than 3.45 billion lei. The average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) stood at 99.4 lei, by 1.3% less than in 2009. Orange Moldova reported the highest ARPU – 109.74 lei, followed by Moldcell – 74.14 lei, and Moldtelecom (operating as Unite on the cell phone market) – 70.88 lei. The holder of the fourth mobile telephony license – Eventis Mobile – had no operations in 2010 due to insolvency proceedings.
