Most of the Moldovans prefer foreign media products or products in the Russian language. Over 90% of the respondents of a poll on the developments and preferences concerning the mass media in Moldova said they will understand everything or almost everything if they watch a TV program in Russian. The results of the poll commissioned by the Association for Development and Cooperation to the Institute of Marketing and Polls (IMAS) were presented in a news conference at IPN.

According to IMAS director Doru Petrutsi, the number of those who want to watch programs in Romanian, eventually Moldovan, is lower. The debate programs/news bulletins and talk shows are almost equally preferred, while the films and soaps in Russian are clearly preferred to those in Romanian.

Over 2/4 of the participants in the poll prefer films dubbed in Russian to original films subtitled in Romanian. Even if 50% of the respondents said they prefer programs produced by local TV channels to the detriment of foreign products, they like more the recreational and children’s programs, sports events, films and soaps produced abroad.

The respondents choose the preferred TV channel depending on the language in which the programs are broadcast and less on the educative content, the style of presenting news, the presenter and other aspects. In the course of the week, the news bulletins are the most popular. On the weekend, the Moldovans prefer films and soaps. In newscasts, the people prefer social and political news.

The most popular TV channels are: Prime TV, Jurnal TV, RTR Moldova/Rossia and ProTV. Among the favorite radio stations are: Radio Noroc, Radio Moldova, Radio Plai and Hit FM.

The poll covered a sample of 1,513 people aged over 18 from 96 communities. It was carried out during February 9 and March 4, 2018 with the support of Sweden and the United States.
