Moldovans nostalgic for USSR
The Moldovans want Moldova to form part again of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, shows the Public Opinion Barometer. 49% of the respondents regret that the USSR fell apart, while 43.7% would vote for Moldova's return to the Union, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the poll, more than a half of those questioned consider that they lived better before 1991, as part of the Soviet Union. They said the living standards then were higher, the workplaces more varied and the relations between people better. At the same time, those who like the present situation mentioned advantages concerning the human rights, the freedom to travel or to choose the religion.
The survey was conducted on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. About half of the respondents said the disappearance of the Berlin Wall had a positive effect on the general development of the mankind, 37.3% respondents could not make an assessment, while about 5% said it was a negative event.
The survey was commissioned by the Public Policy Institute and carried out by the Marketing and Polling Institute IMAS-INC Chisinau between November 16-30. It covered a sample of 1,118 persons older than 18 from 75 settlements, except the Transnistrian region. It has a margin of error of about 3%.
