Messages should be promoted to convince the people that one cannot choose between something that is a success story and something virtual that may start to exist or may not, Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau Marius Lazurca said, referring to the people’s opinions about Moldova’s integration that were presented in the Public Opinion Barometer, Info-Prim Neo reports. The ambassador said that there is a fascination for ‘virtual reality’ in the Moldovan society and the polls confirm this. “I’m stupefied by the fact that the people are ready to support a political reality that does not yet exist. The Eurasian Union is a project that may be implemented or may not. How can one choose between something virtual and a success story that contributed to the extension of peace, prosperity and stability on almost the entire European continent,” said Marius Lazurca. He also said that based on the results of the polls, the employees of the Embassy determined the profile of the Moldovan citizen who is in favor of the European integration. “He speaks Romanian, is mostly young, has higher education and incomes above the national average. We can say that this is the sociological portrait of a pro-European person in Moldova,” stated the ambassador. According to him, the experts should think how to convince as many people as possible about the advantages of the European integration and to persuade society to equivocally support this prospect. The Romanian official also said that Moldova’s accomplishments in the area of European integration are very good and its European prospect is credible. According to the Public Opinion Barometer, almost 60% of the respondents wouldn’t know how to vote in a possible referendum on Moldova’s future course – as part of the European Union or the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union. 22.5% of those polled would vote in favor of the Customs Union, while 16.1% for the EU. 2.2% of those surveyed said they would not take part in such a referendum, while 0.7% did not answer the question.
