Forty representatives of the Associations of Moldovans set up abroad joined the extraterritorial organization of the Liberal-Democratic Party (PLDM) “For Independence and European Integration”. The announcement was made in a news conference on Thursday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Most of the new members live in Italy, the U.S., Canada, Ireland, Spain, and the Netherlands. The representatives of the associations issued a joint statement, saying the Moldovans living abroad pledge to actively take part in the September 5 constitutional referendum and the presidential and parliamentary elections set to take place in autumn.
“We call on all the Moldovans in the country and abroad to give no votes to the Communist and quasi-Communist parties so as to accelerate the democratization and Europeanization of our country,” reads the statement.
The Moldovans living abroad said they joined the PLDM because it is the most consistent and energetic promoter of reforms and Moldova's integration into the EU. The PLDM is headed by Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
