Moldovans’ inborn talent makes its way in times of crisis as well

Specialists and visitors of the fourth exhibition Shops Restaurants-2010, which is taking place at Moldexpo between November 2 and 5, will remain impressed by the wonderful sculptures made from fruit and vegetables by Chisinau inhabitant Valerian Ciocan, Info-Prim Neo reports. Valerian Ciocan graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “N. Testemitanu”, but during the last few years has dealt with fruit and vegetable carving, which is an art that originated in Japan, China and Thailand and which spread in Europe and all over the world, becoming a branch of culinary art. Valerian Ciocan reproduced the fairy tale Cinderella with the help of a pumpkin and transformed beets and carrots into beautiful flowers or funny animals. Ciocan said he inherited the carving talent from his father, who was a carpenter specialized in making inlaid tables and chairs. ”For the time being, carving is my passion. I do what I can out of pleasure for my friends, family, relatives, acquaintances who want to astound the invitees to feasts and wedding parties not only by tasty food, but also by the beauty of the tables,” he said. Ciocan also said that he does not earn money from this passion. “But I hope I will make some money in the future. I want to take part in the second International Gastronomic Championship, in the Art Class division. If my work is appreciated, I will think about transforming this passion into business. Now I want to delight the visitors. I cover the costs of participating in the exhibit by myself. I do not own a firm. I’m a private individual, but I hope in my success and in the recognition of this art,” he added.
