Moldovans holding Ukrainian nationality will elect President of Ukraine at two polling places

The Moldovans who hold Ukrainian citizenship could take part in the January 17 Ukrainian presidential elections at two polling places that will be set up in Moldova – one at the Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau, while the other one at the Ukrainian consulate in Balti, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the press service of the Ukrainian Embassy. Under the legislation of Ukraine, polling stations can be opened abroad only at the diplomatic representative offices of Ukraine. Polling place No. 58 will be set up at the Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau located at 17 Vasile Lupu St. It is intended for the Ukrainian citizens living in the municipality of Chisinau, the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, the towns of Tiraspol, Tighina, and Dnestrovsk and the districts of Anenii Noi, Basarabeasca, Grigoriopol, Dubasari, Cahul, Calarasi, Cantemir, Causeni, Criuleni, Leova, Nisporeni, Orhei, Slobozia, Straseni, Taraclia, Ungheni, Hancesti, Stefan-Voda, Cimislia, and Ialoveni. Polling place No. 59 will be opened inside the Ukrainian consulate in Balti situated at 143 Kievskaia St. The Ukrainian citizens who live in municipality of Balti and in the districts of Briceni, Glodeni, Donduseni, Drochia, Rezina, Rascani, Edinet, Camenca, Ocnita, Rybnitsa, Sangerei, Soroca, Telenesti, Falesti, Floresti, and Soldanesti can vote at this polling place. The polling places on January 17 will be open from 8.00 until 20.00. The voters must have the internal passport of Ukraine (identity card), foreign passport, diplomatic passport, work passport, the sailor's permit or crew member's certificate. The registers of voters are drawn up on the basis of the State Population Register. Under the Ukrainian legislation, the voters that changed their personal data – the name, surname, place of residence, etc., should go to the Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau or the consulate in Balti to make the necessary changes. Models of applications and the list of necessary documents are available on the Embassy's website www.mfa.gov.ua/moldova. According to official data, 71,357 Ukrainian citizens have the right to vote in Moldova. 55,695 of them can vote at the Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau, while 15,662 – at the consulate in Balti. Sources in the Embassy have told Info-Prim Neo that 1,263 persons voted in the early Ukrainian parliamentary elections of September 2007 at the polling place in Chisinau. Eighteen candidates will run in elections, including current President Victor Yushchenko, Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko and the leader of the Opposition Victor Yanukovich.
