Moldovans fully lost confidence in political class, experts

The Moldovans fully lost confidence in the political class. This is how the invitees to the talk show “Friday”, produced by RTR Moldova channel, explained the results of the Public Opinion Barometer poll, IPN reports.

Director of the Institute of Political Consultancy and Research “Politicon” Anatol Taranu considers the people are very disappointed with the ruling parties. “The people voted for parties that didn’t meet their expectations when they came to power. The fact that the number of those who want Moldova to join the Customs Union is higher than of those who want Moldova to become part of the European Union is due to the fact that the people are disappointed in the government. The ruling parties promoted the integration into the EU and the people associated the idea of European integration with the leaders of the PDM and PLDM whom they no longer trust,” he stated.

Anatol Taranu considers that fact that 75% of the respondents said things in Moldova go wrong is also due to the disappointment in the government. “They mean not the geopolitical factor, but the general state of affairs, poverty and unemployment. When the people come home in the evening and find the fridge empty, they do not think about geopolitics. Furthermore, there was also that theft of 1 billion euros,” he stated.

Journalist Dmitri Chubashenko thinks the entire population is in a deep state of depression. “The depressive situation engulfed the whole society and the state. At first, the current government rigged the elections to be able to come to power. Poverty and inflation seriously affected the people who have now less money, while the administration steals money from banks,” he said.

On April 16, the Institute of Public Policy and CBS-AXA made public the Public Opinion Barometer, which shows that 75% of those polled consider things in Moldova go wrong, 63% think the economic situation in the country is much worse than a year ago, while almost half of the respondents believe that the economic situation will worsen in a year. About 60% of those surveyed are concerned about the high prices, while 50% about poverty. More than 80% do not have confidence in the state institutions.
