Moldovans eliminated from World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship

The Moldovan Greco-Roman wrestling athletes were eliminated from the World Championship that is taking place in Las-Vegas. Of the four athletes, only Daniel Cataraga and Igor Besleaga managed to score by a victory, IPN reports.

Daniel Cataraga beat Cristian Nova Roca of Bolivia in the 66kg class, but lost to Serbia’s Davor Stefanek in the 1/8 finals. In the first round, Igor Besleaga won against Brazilian athlete Angelo Rafael Marques Moreiro in the 75kg class, but was defeated in the second round by the future bronze winner Doszhan Kartikov of Kazakhstan.

Victor Ciobanu (59kg) and Ion Luchita (71kg) lost to Roman Amoyan of Armenia and, respectively, to Filip Dubsky of the Czech Republic.

Iulia Leorda (48kg) and Natalia Budu (53kg) enter the women’s competition today, September 10. At the World Freestyle, Women’s and Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship, Moldova is represented by 16 athletes.
