Moldovans don’t crowd around life insurances
Moldovans are not in a hurry to insure their lives, say insurance specialists, who claim that the citizens are not informed well enough about this type of service, and are also discouraged by insurance fees, which they consider to be too high.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Nicolae Iliev, independent consultant on life insurances, stated that this form of insurance is poorly demanded in Moldova, compared to other states. Some of the people here don’t even understand what it is. They mistake this service with financial pyramids or other types of frauds. “There used to be a lot of hoaxers who sought profits and would deceive their clients; thus, Moldovans lost their trust in insurances”, said the consultant.
Life insurance premiums are higher than for the other types, but are also different in nature. If nothing happens to the person who insured his/her life within the insurance period, part of the premium money is refunded to them, which is applicable to other insurance products. Nicolai Iliev says that there are only two companies that provide life insurances in Moldova, and namely “Sigur-Asigur” Ltd. And “Grawe Carat Insurances” JSC.
Representatives of “Grawe Carat Insurances” declared that the market for life insurances still manages to keep a rising trend, but could not offer any data on the number of people using this service.
Sergiu Certan, administrator of “Sigur-Asigur” life insurances, told Info-Prim Neo that, on the one hand, the number of those who realize the necessity of life insurances has grown, but people have been affected by the crisis, and cannot afford this service.
People around the world usually insure their lives when getting employed, says Sergiu Certan. “Either we did not reach this level yet, or the population is uninformed, or the consultants are well prepared in offering the necessary information to people, preferring to work with simpler things”, mentioned Sergiu Certan, who claims that the insurance market in Moldova survives on mandatory insurances, and it would’ve gone bankrupt long ago if they didn’t exist. The administrator believes that the population’s awareness will rise in several years. The insurance market is cleansing, leaving behind only strong professional companies, which will ensure the improvement of the field.
The most frequent category of Moldovans to purchase life insurances is women, between 25 and 45, married, with an average income, who tend to pay more interest in insurance opportunities. Few elderly people purchase insurances, as well as very young people, who do not insure unless their parents do it for them. Also, the very rich people, or the very poor ones, do not purchase life insurances.
