Moldovans convicted of murdering U.S. citizen
Four citizens of Moldova accused of robbing and murdering U.S. citizen of Italian origin Fuccio Vincenzo got punishments of 17 to 22 years in prison, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The sentence was passed by the Cimislia town court. The young woman who lured the American to come to Moldova was sentenced to 17 years behind bars, one of the accomplices to 22 years in prison, while the other two to 18 years in jail. At the prosecutor’s request, the court ordered that the plaintiffs pay damages of about €115,000 to the victim’s family.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the 21-year-old woman got acquainted with the 64-year-old man on a social networking website. After several months of conversations online, she convinced him to visit Moldova. On April 24, 2010, the four met Fuccio Vincenzo at the Chisinau International Airport and took him to a forest near Codreni village. They robbed the victim of over €2 600, two mobile phones, a notebook and his clothes. Then they strangled the man and threw him into a pond.
In a month, three of the offenders were arrested in Odessa town. The fourth accomplice was arrested later, when the case was sent to court.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
