Moldovans consider Merkel’s visit as most important political event of 2012
More than one third of the Moldovans believe that the visit paid by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Moldova is the most important political event of the previous year, according to a survey conducted by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The respondents were offered a list of 15 events and told to choose three of them that they consider the most important. Almost 36% of those surveyed selected the visits of the German Chancellor, 33% - the arguments and fights in Parliament, while 21% - the defections from the Communist Party.
Over 18% of those polled chose the repair of roads, 15% - the election of Nicolae Timofti as head of state, 14.9% - the unionist marches in Balti, Cahul and Chisinau, 13.5% - the closure of the private TV channel Nit, while almost 13% - the involvement of businesses in politics and the unsuccessful attempts to elect the members of the National Integrity Commission.
12% of the respondents consider important the visit made by the President of the European Commission to Chisinau, while 11% - the protests staged by the Communist Party, the attempts to organize a referendum on joining the Eurasian Union, and the protests against the Antidiscrimination Law. Among other important events are the legislative elections in Gagauzia, the implementation of reforms by the Filat Government and the reformation of the legal system.
The researches within the poll “Year 2012 in the opinion of the Moldovans” were done during December 21-30 and covered a sample of 1,200 persons older than 18 from 72 settlements, except the Transnistrian region. The margin of sampling error is +3.0%. The respondents were asked to name three most important events of 2012, but about 76% of them named only one or two events.
