Moldovans abroad vote more actively in Italy, Romania and Russia

More than 35,000 Moldovans have voted at the polling places established outside the country’s borders by 3:30pm. Those in Italy, Romania and Russia are the most active ones. Over 21,000 people voted at the 44 polling places set up in these three countries, IPN reports.

The data were presented by the Central Election Commission in a press briefing. CEC members said the Moldovans abroad voted most actively at the polling places in Moscow, Bucharest and Padova.

A low voter turnout was reported at the polling places set up in the People’s Republic of China, where only 19 persons cast their ballots, in Lithuania, where 20 persons voted, and in Japan, where only 25 persons voted.

The CEC said the polling places in Seattle and Sacramento in the United States are yet to open. Given the difference in the local time of Moldova and the countries where polling places were established, the CEC expects a more active participation among the diaspora will be yet witnessed.
