The writers in the Republic of Moldova describe Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine as a humanitarian catastrophe and say that in the context of the security crisis in the region, voices are needed to explain the horrors of the war to society. The intellectuals say the war caused by the Kremlin leader separates the Russian people from the Ukrainians people for several centuries to come, fully isolating Russia from the international community. According to them, Moldova should take sides with the civilized world, IPN reports.
Writer Maria Pilkin said that regardless of the profession or social status, all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova should condemn the horrors of the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin regime turned into military dictatorship that endangers the security of the whole continent.
“We grew up with the idea that anything can happen, but war should be avoided. It was a Soviet saying. But this war was caused also out of nostalgia for what was Soviet. It is a humanitarian catastrophe and, either you are an intellectual or a peasant, you cannot remain aside without reacting. The writers are different, as in any guild, but in such moments we become doctors who examine the state of society and also teachers who want to teach, to show a direction. That’s why we say NO to a humanitarian catastrophe. In Moscow, we have a regime that until yesterday was authoritarian, but now definitely became a military dictatorship. The simmering chauvinism turned into a form of fascism,” Maria Pilkin stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
Writer Mircea Ciobanu said that by this war Russia excluded itself from the group of the great powers of the world. The Russian invasion of Ukraine will change the future of all the countries of the region. For the Republic of Moldova, it is important to take sides with the West.
“I don’t imagine the Ukrainians forgiving the Russians in a predictable future, of several decades if not centuries. At the same time, I would not consider the Kremlin leaders’ assertions that they fight for a new world order as a slogan only and here it is important to take the right side. Russia is building its own Chinese wall, but not for not being attacked, but for preventing its own people from feeling. Russia will keep everyone inside this enclosure and we should not be inside this,” stated Mircea Ciobanu.
Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine started on February 24 and about 4 million Ukrainians have fled from the war since then according to the UN.
