Moldovan wrestlers win four medals at world champs
The wrestlers of Moldova have won four medals at the World Wrestling Championships held in the Czech capital of Prague, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Olga Gusikov from Rybnitsa won a gold medal per total in the 48 kg class and a bronze in wrestling, 57 kg. Radu Baranov from Ungheni was awarded silver in the 90 kg class, while Iurie Todireanu from Soroca – bronze in the 95 kg class.
Another five representatives of Moldova who participated in the tournament ranked fifth-eighth.
According to the Moldovan team's coach Ion Gheorghiu, the wrestlers had a good performance. “Most of them showed they are well-prepared even if they faced worthy opponents,” Gheorghiu said.
In the country rankings, Moldova takes the seventh position of the 35 participating countries. The World Wrestling Championships brought together 218 athletes.
