Victoria Dunford, a Moldova woman who settled in the UK and who is the founder of the charitable organization Moldova AID in the UK, managed to collect 3 million lei for erecting a rehabilitation and early intervention enter for children with disabilities in Rascani district, which is her place of birth, IPN reports.
Victoria Dunford returned home to launch the Phoenix Center in Rascani, which is a large-scale reconstruction and equipment project based on the British model, this autumn. The reconstruction of the derelict building costs over 2.8 million lei. The whole sum and the equipment, furniture and accessories were obtained due to this woman’s effort.
The woman said the results were achieved also because of the effort made by the team from Rascani, headed by Tanina Carlig, by mayor Victor Bogatico and other figures. The British Ambassador in Chisinau Phil Batson also contributed to this achievement by running 42 km within a marathon staged in Chisinau. The project’s commercial sponsor Doru Moraru, of ICS Excel Manufacturing of Balti, also made a contribution.
“During three years, since we initiated these activities, we have supported the most socially deprived persons of Moldova, namely those with disabilities. Only by concerted effort can we be stronger, more prolific and better,” stated Victoria Dunford.
