Moldovan woman attempts to bribe Romanian officer for cigarette smuggling
A Romanian border officer reported to the General Anticorruption Department the attempt of a Moldovan woman to bribe him with €1,600 so that he allowed her to cross the border with smuggled cigarettes, Info-Prim Neo learned from the Romanian press.
The quoted source informs that after searching a vehicle from Moldova, the officer found 1,000 hidden cigarette packs in several places through the car.
As a result, the vehicle and the passengers were taken to the Stanca Border Police Station for a more detailed search. One of the passengers, a 39 year old woman from Moldova promised the officer a bribe if he didn’t search the car.
The woman is charged with bribery and will be taken to the Botosani Court, where the police will request an arrest warrant for her. The agents of the Border Police Station in Stanca will charge the woman and her husband with smuggling.
The cigarettes, valued at 4,900 Romanian lei or about 20,000 Moldovan lei, were seized. The vehicle is kept at the Border Police Station in Stanca.
