Moldovan winegrowers not yet decided where to export table grapes

The table grape yield this year is by 15% higher compared with last year, but the export market has not been selected yet, Valeriu Cebotari, head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry’s Wine Growing Division, has told Info-Prim Neo. “The black table grapes are in greater demand. The early sorts in Moldova are mainly white and cherry. As the harvest this year is greater, it is expected that the white sorts will be also in demand after the export of black sorts is over,” said Valeriu Cebotari. He also said that the supply of grapes is higher and the prices are also higher. At the beginning, the price of a kilogram of table grapes was over 20 lei, but now it is about 15 lei. “The Ministry of Agriculture can only recommend approximate prices as we have market economy. The prices are decided by the sellers and buyers,” stated the official. Valeriu Cebotari considers that the growers of technical sorts of grapes are in a better situation as they signed contracts with wine makers and have greater sale possibilities. The table grape yield is projected total 550,000 tonnes, as against 480,000 tonnes last year.
