Moldovan weightlifters competing in World Champs
Brothers Ghenadie and Iurie Dudoglo ranked 15th and, respectively, 19th at the World Weightlifting Championships taking place in France. Both of the athletes competed in the 62kg class.
In the snatch and the clean and jerk, Ghenadie lifted a total of 277 kg, while Iurie – 273 kg.
This year’s European champion Oleg Sirghi achieved a modest result earlier. He finished 17th in the 56kg class.
In the women’s competition, Moldova’s only representative Cristina Iovu ranks last in the 48kg class so far.
The other Moldovan athletes who will enter the competition are: Artiom Pipa and Alexandru Shpac (69kg class), Alexandru Dudoglo (77kg class), and Eugen Bratan and Anatol Caracu (94kg class).
According to the national squad’s coach Gheorghe Gutu, the Moldovan weightlifters at the champs can obtain at least four quotas to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games.
