The Moldovans eligible to vote who are abroad can register online for the October 30 presidential elections starting with May 10. These are invited to access ww.alegator.md and to fill the registration form and the electronic statement in the section “Preliminary registration”. The voter will receive confirmation of the preliminary registration on the email address indicated in the form, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the Central Election Commission, when registering online, the Moldovans state their wish to take part in the elections and show that they are abroad. The preliminary registration of the Moldovans abroad will enable to identify the major concentrations of voters so as to establish additional polling places.
The Moldovan citizens abroad who register preliminarily will be automatically struck off the main electoral rolls at the domicile in Moldova. This is a temporary move valid only for the presidential elections of this year.
The preliminary registration period ends at most 40 days before the election day. Afterward, the information about the number of Moldovan people abroad who registered online will be transmitted by the Central Election Commission to the Government, which will decide how many additional polling places will be set up outside embassies and consular offices.
The Commission said that the data that will be collected as a result of the preliminary registration will be processed exclusively for organizing the elections. These will be protected in accordance with the law and will not be revealed to any of the state institution in the county or abroad, except for the cases stipulated in the legislation.
