Moldovan villages without public transport to Chisinau and without transport in general
Some of the villages in Moldova have taxi services that the people can use to go where they need, but there are villages where there is no public route to Chisinau or, if there is such a route, the units of transport run only several times a week. There are also villages that do not have public transport at all.
Lilia Machidon, a resident of Japca village of Floresti district, has told Info-Prim Neo that they have only one minibus in their village that travels to Chisinau four times a week – on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. On these days, it runs to Chisinau only once at 6.10. On the other days, those who want to get to Chisinau have to walk 3 kilometers up to the neighboring village Sanatauca, from where they can take public transport to the capital city.
The villagers can also use the minibus running to Floresti, from where they can take a unit of transport to Chisinau. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, they can use the minibus to Soldanesti, from where they can take another means of transport to Chisinau. Japca is situated about 150 kilometers from Chisinau and is known for the monastery that is located nearby.
Elena Doru, from Costangalia, Cimislia, stated for Info-Prim Neo that their village has no direct route to Chisinau. Those who want to get to the capital city have to walk 5 to 7 kilometers up to the neighboring villages to take a unit of transport to Chisinau there.
The woman said that several years ago, there was a bus running on the Costangalia – Chisinau road, which belonged to a company. The bus traveled on Thursday and Sunday, but it was removed. “We do not have a direct route to Chisinau. About four months ago, they introduced a minibus to Cimislia that goes only on Tuesday and Thursday. The people need to go to the hospital. There are persons who cannot walk over a long distance,” stated the woman.
When it rains or snows, the students who study in Chisinau pay a private car to take them at least to Cimislia. It is about 60 kilometers from Costangalia up to Cimislia.
There is a similar situation in Humulesti village of Chisinau municipality. The inhabitants do not have public transport to get to Chisinau. If the villagers do not have a private car, they have to walk about 5 kilometers to get to the neighboring village, which has public transport.
Humulesti administratively forms part of Bubuieci village. The Mayor of Bubuieci Ion Saranuta has told Info-Prim Neo that they do not have public transport because there is no road. He said they several times tried to introduce a minibus, but the Municipal General Public Transport Division could not issue an authorization for the route because the Traffic Police said it is dangerous to travel on a country road that is not asphalted. The construction of a street is postponed as they do not have the necessary financial resources.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the Transport Ministry’s Ground Transport Division Iulian Postica said the Ministry considers it is not opportune to set up direct routes to Chisinau in every settlement as there are created jams. He stated that the stations working in Chisinau are congested. Under the legislation, there must be intervals between the routes and when these intervals are approved, it is impossible to add new routes.
“We propose a different strategy for organizing regular routes -- village – district center – Chisinau. In the municipality of Chisinau, there are direct regular routes within a distance of up to 50 kilometers. The access roads to the terminals would be blocked if we opened by a route in every settlement,” said Iulian Postica. He added that the routes from villages to districts are managed by the local authorities.
Thus, the settlements that do not have public transport services or are provided with such services in a limited way will continue to face transport-related problems. Is there a person or an institution that can seriously address them?
