The men’s national tennis team of Moldova scored the first a victory in the Davis Cup Europe Zone Group III. Moldova beat Malta 3-0 on May 11, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the ordinary matches, Andrei Gorban defeated Denzil Agius 6-0, 6-0, while Radu Albot won against Matthew Asciak 7-5, 6-2. In doubles, Gorban and Roman Tudoreanu demolished Bradley Callus and Asciak 6-1, 6-0. In the last encounter of the qualifying round, the Moldovan tennis players meet Iceland’s squad on May 13. If Moldova win, they will qualify for the play-off phase, where they will fight for a place in the Davis Cup Europe Zone Group II. The competition is taking place in Macedonia during May 9 – 15.
