Moldovan students win bronze at Balkan Olympiad in Informatics
Moldova’s team has won three bronze medals in the 18th Balkan Olympiad in Informatics.
The delegation’s head Constantin Dolghieru stated for Info-Prim Neo that the problems proposed in the Olympiad were algorithmic and aimed to select the most talented secondary school students in computing science.
The Olympiad took place in Petrovac town of Montenegro between October 31 and November 6 and brought together 36 participants from nine countries, by four from every country. Moldova achieved some of the best results during the last several years of participation in the competition, said Constantin Dolghieru.
The best results in the Olympiad were obtained by Bulgaria, which won three of the four gold medals and a silver. The Romanian team won a gold and two of the six silvers, while the Moldovan squad won three of the nine bronzes.
Moldova was represented by three students of the “Orizontul” High School, two of whom – twelfth grader Alexandru Grigoroi and eleventh grader Andrei Ivanov – won bronze medals, while eleventh grader Mihai Indricean obtained a mention. Ninth grader Victor Ciuntu, of the “Prometeu Prim” High School, also won a bronze.
The Moldovan team was selected by a contest organized by the Ministry of Education on the basis of he results achieved by the students in the national Olympiad this year.
