11 Moldovan soldiers, who are carrying out their contract military service, will participate at humanitarian operations in Iraq for 6 months. This will be the fourth Moldovan military contingent that will be on a mission in Iraq. According to a decision approved on this issue by the Parliament the team will be constituted of 8 sappers, who will have the duty to disarm explosive objectives, and 3 general staff officers who will perform their activity within the General Staff of the Multinational Forces Command. According to the Ministry of Defense, at present, those 11 soldiers are finishing the special training and are ready to participate in the mission. At present, at the international operation in Iraq 11 soldiers of Moldova are participating. The first two contingents activated during September 2003 – March 2004 (42 soldiers) and July 2004 – February 2005 (12 soldiers).
