Moldovan soldiers who went missing in Afghan war will continue to be looked for
The Government of Moldova will provide financial resources to continue searching for the Moldovan soldiers who went missing during the Afghan war of 1979-1989.
The executive made such a decision after approving the decision to continue looking for the military men that disappeared in the war in Afghanistan taken by the Board of Heads of Government of the Community of Independent States (CIS) in Astana on May 22, 2009.
The Board’s decision envisions the identification of the graves of the given soldiers, the exhumation of the remains and their reburying in the homeland.
According to statistical data, about 270 persons from the CIS member states went missing during the Afghan war. Among them are four Moldovan soldiers.
