Moldovan society lacks sexual education, opinions

The discriminatory attitude to the sexual minorities is due to the lack of appropriate sexual education in Moldovan society, blogger Arcadie Cotruta, who is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, said in the talk show “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.

According to Cotruta, we are a religious state and our people are used to go to the church and believe in church. “But the problem resides in the fact that the nontraditional sexual orientation is not discussed and the people pretend not to see those who are of another sexual orientation. It is also about the complexes of our people about sex in general,” he stated.

The blogger considers the discrimination against the sexual minorities is also due to the living standards in Moldova. “In the developed countries, homosexuality is not a problem. The less developed the countries are from economic viewpoint, the greater the intolerance to the LGBT community is. The conclusion is that the poorer the people are, the more obsessed they are with morality,” stated Cotruta.

Angela Frolov, program coordinator at the Information Center “GenderDoc”, also considers that the problem resides in education. “The Moldovans’ attitude to sex is the key problem. Any deviation from traditionalism is considered perversion by our society. The sexual education should be introduced in schools, surely not in the primary classes,” she stated.

The participants in the march mounted by the LGBT community in Chisinau on May 17 were attacked  with eggs and petards. The police arrested six persons.
