A Moldovan ship was wrecked off the coast in the Black Sea, near the Ukrainian region Girlo Bistroe. All the members of the crew were saved, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, the ship “Nikolay Bauman”, which was included in the State Ships Register of Moldova, is owned by Danube Shipping LTD - a private company based in Ismail, Ukraine.
The ship sailed from Eregly port in Turkey to Herson port in Ukraine. It had over 2,000 tonnes of plaster and 49 tonnes of equipment on board. At about 01.40 on the night of March 6, it started to sink. The effort of the crew consisting of ten citizens of Ukraine and two Russians to remove the penetrating water was unsuccessful.
The captain decided to direct the ship towards the coast. At 09.30 the crew was evacuated, while at 10.00 the ship’s poop sank. The crew is now in the Ukrainian town of Chilia. The pollution of the environment with oil products and other substances transported by the ship was avoided.
