Moldovan servicemen take part in NATO-led peacekeeping exercise

A contingent of the National Army is participating in the multinational peacekeeping exercise “Sea Breeze 2010” held in Ukraine during July 12-24, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Ministry of Defense. The contingent is composed of six general staff officers and an infantry platoon consisting of 30 soldiers of the Peacekeeping Battalion No. 22. “The participation in this exercise is important for the National Army as the military men will get professional training,” said the contingent's commander, Major Vitalie Rusu. The Moldovan servicemen will take part in patrolling, dispute settling and munitions control missions and will escort convoys. “Sea Breeze 2010” is a NATO-led multinational peacekeeping drill taking place in the Black Sea region. It involves Ukrainian forces and troops from Azerbaijan, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Georgia, Moldova, Turkey, and the United States. The exercise practices the interoperability of the military and law enforcement bodies of different countries in the fight against terrorism, sea piracy, sea rescue and naval shipping control. Moldova's National Army is taking part in such a drill for the first time.
